Justification for EICAT assessment

When Golden Oyster Mushroom is present in logs of Ulmus spp. in Wisconsin, USA, co-occurring native fungal diversity is reduced by half compared with paired Ulmus logs where Golden Oyster Mushroom is absent. Overall, when Golden Oyster Mushroom is present, native fungal richness is reduced and the prevalence of 33 different, putatively native fungal OTUs is reduced from 10-55% (Veerabahu et al. 2025).
Confidence rating
Medium
Mechanism(s) of maximum impact
Competition; Chemical Impact on ecosystem ; Structural Impact on ecosystem; Indirect impacts through interactions with other species
Countries of most severe impact
U.S.A.
Description of impacts
The impact is reduction in native populations of fungi in co-occurring logs. The exact mechanisms of impact are unclear, but may be competition, chemical impact on ecosystem, structural impact on the ecosystem, and/or indirect impacts through interactions with other species.
