Summary
Fragaria vesca is a herbaceous rhizomatous perennial. It is found in disturbed areas, degraded forests and along roads and paths. In Hawaii, the species is naturalized in mesic areas and moist forests, between 700 and 1700 m. It spreads very rapidly by stolons and can form dense stands. In La Réunion, it invades natural or semi-natural environments with a relatively high density but it does not dominate or co-dominate vegetation. Its fruit is edible and is dispersed by birds and mammals.
