Summary
Hedychium coronarium is an herbaceous perennial that reaches up to 2m in height. It resembles Hedychium hedychium and Hedychium flavescens. Originally from India, it has been introduced to many countries as an ornamental. Cultivated and planted in gardens, the species has naturalised. It prefers moist habitats, such as rainforests or the banks of rivers. With other Hedychium species it is a major pest in Hawaii. Its control is made difficult by the presence of rhizomes.
